About us

The Ali S.K. Memorial Society for the Children (ASKMSC) was initiated and founded by Wolfgang Muller, a German national who gave up his career as a scientist in 1995 to come to Kolkata and study Indian languages and culture as well as to engage in social work.

The society was named in memory of his late friend Ali Salem Khalifa who had come to Kolkata together with him, but tragically died there in 1997. One year after his friend's death the Ali S.K. Memorial Society for the Children was registered under the West Bengal Society Registration Act, 1961.

The registration number is S/90675 of 1998-99. It is a fully non-commercial, non-profit and non-religious organisation committed to the welfare of street children in Calcutta.

With the help of Muller's family, relatives and friends the fund raising organisation
Aktion Lebenshilfe fur Indiens Strassenkinder e. V. (ali sk. e.V.) was set up and registered in Germany in 1999 in order to provide the necessary funds. The registration number is VR 1792.
